Zoran Djindjic Foundation was established on the 15th December 2003, after the tragic murder of Zoran Djindjic, first democratically elected Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia. The Foundation was established with the aim of continuing to promote the values of modern and democratic Serbia and to preserve the legacy of Zoran Djindjic.
Since 2004, Zoran Djindjic Foundation, together with the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations has been working on the Zoran Djindjic Internship Program of German Business, the aim of which is to give qualified young people the chance to gain three or six months of vocational experience in some of the best-known German companies. The internships are intended for final-year university students and for qualified graduates still gaining their initial work experience. The students gain their experience in some of the major German companies, in a range of industries: the automobile industry, energy, electrical engineering, electronics, banking, business, construction, trade, aeronautics, agricultural technology and cartography.
Zoran Djindjic Foundation together with Austrian Development Cooperation and organization WUS Austria launched an internship program titled Experiencing Europe: Serbian Young Professionals in Austria - Zoran Djindjic Internship Program. The program has been implemented from 2007 - 2011, it was cancelled due to lack of funds. Around two hundred young people fom Serbia got the chance to gain valuable experience in compaies throughout Austria.
Besides the internship programs in Germany and Austria, the Foundation launched Young Experts in Italy - Zoran Djindjic Internship Program. The program was implemented in 2012 as a pilot project offering 10 to 15 young people a chance to spend four months working in companies across Italy.
Very important part of the Foundation's activities is Zoran Djindjic Regional School of Political Philosophy financed by the Balkan Trust for Democracy and implemented in the cooperation with the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade since 2011.
In 2014, the Zoran Djindjic Foundation together with the Faculty of Political Sciences, Univesity of Belgrade and the Department for politics and public administration, University of Konstanz launched the Belgrade-Konstanz First School on European Integration and Democratization. It introduces the participants into the state of the art of European integration and democratization research, with a special focus on state-building, democratization and Eu accession in the Western Balkans.
As the one of the main goals of the Foundation is promotion of the ideas and values that Zoran Djindjic insisted on, such as education, the Foundation together with the Provincial Secretariat for Sports and Youth initiated the programme Learn and travel - Support to Young Talents since 2012 in order to provide financial support to students from Serbia to go on to advanced training abroad by covering travelling expenses.
Besides the internship and educational programs the Foundation has an emerging publishing activity in cooperation with National Library of Serbia.
Zoran Djindjic Foundation is one of the youngest organizations in Serbia with a clear commitment to the principles of a modern, progressive and educated society, a society with tolerance and respect for diversity, both cultural and political. The Foundation is non-partisan and non-political.
